Seven Habits of Highly Evangelistic Christians

By Joe Mott
Recently I read a blog by Dr. Thom Rainer, President and CEO of LifeWay Christian Resources, that caught my attention. He highlights the factors that make up a highly evangelistic church, something My Hope with Billy Graham seeks to cultivate. In short, a highly evangelistic church is made up of highly evangelistic Christians. Though not a dramatic news headline, it does make me stop and think – how do I get my church to contain more of these types of Christians?
The answer is not in recruiting ‘these types’ of Christians to join your church, but rather a simple question that every believer in your congregation must ask him or herself, “What am I doing to become more evangelistic?” Rainer lists Seven Characteristics that are patterns that will lead us to be more effective at shining our light. Read the entire blog here.

  1. Be a person of prayer.
  2. Believe in the urgency of the gospel message.
  3. Spend time in the Word.
  4. Be compassionate.
  5. Love the communities where God has placed you.
  6. Be intentional about evangelism.
  7. Be accountable to someone for your evangelistic      activities.

My Hope with Billy Graham seeks to challenge Christians to exhibit these traits. As an individual, consider these traits as inspiration for growth and encouragement. This is what a Matthew is made of! As a pastor, encourage your church that these traits aren’t born, but rather learned. Begin teaching on growth in each of these areas, and watch as God works to transform your congregation into a Highly Evangelistic Church.
